Strategic Asia Contracts with the United Nations Development Programme to Deliver a Project on the Second Decade of Indonesia's Decentralisation Experience

Strategic Asia has been commissioned by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to facilitate a Policy Strategy Group which aims to address a range of new development problems arising from the Second Decade of Decentralisation. These problems ranging from infrastructure investment and the conclusion of PPPs to mitigating the impact of climate change or promoting income equality and dampening the threat of social violence will provide an expanding role to trans-regional government such as the Province. This project will take place over the next 15 months and will involve extensive consultations with stakeholders at both the national and regional level.

Strategic Asia Hosts Seminar on Policies and Mechanisms for Higher Value Added in the Coal Industry

Strategic Asia will be hosting a Seminar on ‘Generic Rules or Commodity based Regulations in promoting higher domestic value added in Natural Resource Use: Lessons from the Coal industry?’. While the need for economic diversification and employment promotion through capturing a larger share of value added for the domestic economy is widely recognised, the policy issues involved and the type of mechanisms suitable for value added capture across different commodities is less clearly understood. Hence there is a need for greater understanding and debate over the impact of different sets of regulations in different industries. The present seminar is an attempt to understand and explore the impact of current regulations and industry impact on Indonesia’s coal industry and its coal exports.
